MBA Careers - Frequently Asked Questions

I understand a lot of Swiss Finance alumni work in the US, the UK and in Europe in general. I am not looking for a job in the these geographies.

Many of our students are interested in working in their home regions outside the US and Europe. Because business and financial markets are deeply inter-connected, the training one receives at Swiss Finance provides an exceptional background for job-seekers throughout the world. Our MBA Career Success Center is happy to assist with your job search in other countries.

Where do most students accept employment after graduation?

A substantial percentage of our students accept positions in finance at major banks and financial institutions such as wealth management firms and hedge funds. Many of our students also use their training to begin careers as investors, wealth managers, and as private equity entrepreneurs. Some students also accept employment at other established firms in a wide variety of industries, for example in technology and healthcare. A large number, however, tend to prefer offers from multinational investment banks with branch offices near their geographic locations. Other students may launch start-ups, take leadership roles in family businesses, or become independent traders.

I plan to work in the family business. Is this program right for me?

Yes, we believe this program is ideally suited for students planning to take on greater responsibility in their family-run businesses. There are several reasons why this is so:

1) Curriculum: The course material and curriculum Swiss Finance delivers is precisely what CEOs and CFOs need to know. For example, by the time you graduate, you will understand how capital markets drive growth, how to maximize profits, key elements of business and competitive strategy, how to take your company public the right way and how to engage in productive M&A activity. You will also understand how best to invest the firm's financial resources and your personal wealth. You will know the tasks you as a business owner must and must not delegate. Our students become the in-house experts, minimizing the risk of relying on outside financial professionals who lack real, tangible skills and know-how or who frequently have a conflict of interest which is present in almost every single such relationship - their interest is in getting paid the highest with the lowest investment of time and effort, while yours is the opposite - if you are already a business owner, you precisely understand that. In order to succeed you need to learn to hire people who can deliver technical and highly specialized "know-how" and get their hands dirty, and avoid "experts" who talk mumble jumble and focus on "know-what." Some of our faculty run successful family businesses, have made millions doing so and intimately understand the key issues business owners face.

2) Structure: The structure of our MBA degree program is ideally suited for students currently employed in a family business. Students have maximum flexibility to structure coursework around current obligations and are able to immediately implement new knowledge and skills.

Self directed modules can be tailored to corporate needs, and students are encouraged to customize their modules for maximum impact in their businesses.

3) The Network: Many of our students run or plan to work in family businesses. Many of our faculty members are also business owners. This means that students are able to network with peers who face the same challenges and advantages. Forming relationships with peers and the resulting discussions often lead to innovative solutions to common problems.

I have work experience in a different industry, but I would like to get into high-finance. Can you help?

Yes. Many of our students have very interesting work experience, but in a field not related to their future career goals. MBA at Swiss Finance can be a career changing transition step for these types of students.. Our Career Success Center, along with faculty mentors will work closely with you to parlay your past experiences into strengths in your career search. Students with previous experience in fields as diverse as science and law have been successful in finding employment in the new finance or banking careers of their choice.

How can I benefit from the Alumni Network?

Students who attend Swiss Finance, School of Business make connections that last a lifetime. The transformational experience creates bonds of loyalty to the school and to fellow alumni. Our alumni are enthusiastic about speaking with current students who will soon join them in the Alumni Network. After consulting the Career Success Center, a counselor can provide contact information to our MBA students for alumni who share your passions. The value of speaking with an alumni who has already followed the career path you would like to pursue is often great. Alumni can offer advice on interviewing, working for specific employers, finding housing in a new city, and many other relevant topics.

I live quite far from where I would like to work; can you help me find employment in the City of London or on Wall Street?

The MBA Career Success Center has extensive experience helping students find employment in the competitive UK and US financial centers. Swiss Finance has strong recruiting relationships with many top firms in these cities. Kindly note, however, that we are unable to guarantee any employment.
